He served as a delegate for Pennsylvania to the Continental Congress in 1777 and 1778. Jonathan was the son of Samuel Smith of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, who had moved to Philadelphia and conducted a successful mercantile business. Nel 2004 ha ubblicato il suo quarto e ultimo album "Morals and Dogma", oltre a un cofanetto intitolato "Deathprod" contenente i suoi primi quattro album. Ha anche lavorato con i Biosphere all'album "Nordheim Transformed", tributo agli Arne Nordheim.
